Tool Preparation
Loading tools: plastic spatula / scraper, special wool roller brush;
Mixing tools: large-capacity plastic bucket (≥20L), electric mixer (or hand stirrer);
Auxiliary tools: sandpaper, removable tape, dust-proof protective film, cloth, spray bottle.
On-site Protection
Cover the ground, door frames, baseboards, switch sockets, lamp edges with protective film, and apply removable tape for demarcation to prevent materials from getting stained.
The wall coating itself has limited covering power. Defects in the base layer will directly show through. The base layer must meet the following conditions: dry, flat, white, free of oil stains, and no floating dust.
Foundation Inspection and Repair
Newly built walls need to be cured for more than 28 days, with the wall moisture content ≤10% and pH value 7~9;Remove loose and detached layers, make V-shaped grooves for cracks and fill them with putty to make them smooth, and for large areas that are not smooth, apply putty first to level them out.
Cleaning and Sealing the Base Coat
Thoroughly remove dust, oil stains, and mold spots on the wall surface. For oily areas, clean with a neutral cleaner and rinse off before drying;
Apply a single coat of white water-based base coat to the entire wall, wait for it to dry (about 4~6 hours), and then apply the silk wall plaster, which serves to prevent the base layer from bleeding color, unify the base color, and enhance adhesion.
1 Soak in water
Pour the entire package of wall coating into a clean large bucket. Add 20-40℃ warm water according to the product instructions (standard ratio: 1kg of dry material plus 0.8-1.2L of water, refer to the packaging for details);
2 Stirring
Stir initially until there are no dry powder lumps. Let it stand and soak for 30-60 minutes to allow the fibers to fully absorb water and expand, ensuring adhesion and smoothness during construction.
Stir again before use, fully stir for 2-3 minutes to ensure the fibers are completely dispersed, without lumps, and the texture is uniform. Then it can be applied to the wall.
3 Wall application
Standard application thickness: 1.5 – 2mm. Too thick will cause cracking and peeling, while too thin will expose the base color and show through.
4 Material placement and flattening
Use a trowel to take an appropriate amount of the mixed silk plaster and evenly apply it on the wall surface. First, spread it horizontally over a wide area, then crosswise to fill in the gaps, roughly controlling the thickness;
Construction sequence: From top to bottom, from left to right, carry out the entire wall in a continuous manner to avoid pauses that may create seams.
5 Rolling application for leveling
After spreading, immediately use a special roller brush to gently roll in the same direction to smooth out the trowel marks and make the fiber texture uniform;
For the same area, apply 2 – 3 times with the roller. Do not repeatedly press it, otherwise it will cause uneven color and fiber pilling.
6 Edge and corner details handling
Corner (shadow): Finish one wall first, then proceed to the adjacent wall. Use the narrow edge of the scraper to gently press and straighten along the corner line;
Corner (sunlight-facing): During construction, allow the material to extend 2 – 3cm beyond the edge of the corner to ensure continuous texture, then use the scraper to smooth the edge;
Switch and socket: Tear off the painter’s tape, use a small scraper to reapply the coating at the edge to ensure a neat boundary.
7 Drying and maintenance, natural drying
After completion, maintain natural ventilation. It will completely dry in 24 – 48 hours (the lower the temperature and the higher the humidity, the longer the drying time);
During the drying period, do not open windows for strong wind blowing, direct air conditioning blowing, or direct sunlight exposure, otherwise it will cause cracking and curling due to rapid water loss.
8 Defect repair
After drying, if you find any exposed base color or uneven thickness, use a spray bottle to spray a small amount of warm water to moisten, then apply a small amount of silk wall plaster with the roller to level it. The repaired area can naturally blend in without obvious traces.
Notes for Attention
The mixed silk wall plaster should be used up within 4 hours to avoid drying out and losing its effectiveness;If it accidentally gets on furniture or the floor during construction, wipe it off immediately with a damp cloth. It will be difficult to clean once it dries;
For daily cleaning, use a dry cloth or vacuum cleaner to remove dust. For large stains, you can wipe them with warm water and let them air dry naturally, leaving no trace.
